CONCEPT
Unfortunately, in sci-fi movies, black people are not well respresented, if not at all. Afrofuturism also explores the idea experience of black people (especially the translatlantic slave trade) is often parallel to the plots of sci-fi stories and therefore, through this lens, blackness is a technology. This project was a collaboration between Armhed Louis-Jean and myself and it culminated into a book, the first of a series.
PHOTOGRAPHY
With small resources the futuristic element came through the light, the fabric as a simple prop as well as the make up. The uniformity created through the wardrobe and the make up also added to the futuristic element as unified symbol. The storyline of unity was conveyed through the Fabric symbolism.
